The lovely fresh apple green rounded leaves gives this easy going medium sized tree a good feel in any garden, introduced from Southern Italy about 1820 which gives it the common name of Italian Alder.
Unusually, Italian Alder is not shaped by the wind. It is therefore ideal for planting in exposed positions as a specimen, in clumps as windbreaks of as an extremely effective hedge of 2 metres or more.Make a wonderful Bonsai.
