Smooth Amaranth (Amaranthus hybridus) is an erect annual herb of the amaranth family (Amaranthaceae), native to the Americas and now a widespread weed of the warm and temperate world. It grows 30-150 cm tall, with oval, long-stalked leaves and slender, green to reddish flower spikes. Like its relatives it is gathered as a potherb in many countries, and it is a familiar weed of fields and gardens.
