Sono alberi o arbusti, che raggiungono una dimensione di 10 – 14 m di altezza. Tronco di 15 cm di diametro e rametti leggermente appiattiti, pubescenti bruno-stellati, glabri. Foglie di 2 forme; 2 foglie basali su ciascun ramo opposto, picciolo 3 – 5 mm, foglia da ellittica a ovale, 4,5 – 10 x 3 – 5 cm, apice da arrotondato ad acuto, altre foglie alterne, picciolo da 1 a 1,5 cm e che formano un’ampia guaina basale che racchiude l’inverno gemme, foglia largamente ellittica, ovata o arrotondata, 5 – 15 X 4 a 20 cm, base da subarrotondata a largamente cuneata, apice da acuto ad acuminato. Infiorescenze in racemi terminali o ascellari, con 10 – 20 fiori, 6 – 15 cm, talvolta con 1 o 2 racemi laterali dalla base dell’infiorescenza. Pedicello da 3 a 5 mm. Fiori leggermente penduli. Calice 4 -5 mm, densamente tomentoso grigio-giallo, denti 5 o 6, da lanceolato a deltoide. Corolla bianca o rosa, tubo 4 mm, lobi ellittici, 13 – 16 X 4 – 5 mm. Stami più corti della corolla. Frutto da ovoidale a subovoidale, di 1 – 1,5 cm di diametro, densamente tomentoso con stellate gialle. Semi marrone scuro, oblunghi, lisci.
