Double Hollyhock seed Alcea rosea ‘Double’
Uses: Medicinal/Industrial
The back of the border will come to life when these tall spires of luscious colour erupt in mid-summer. Double hollyhock grows to between 1.2-2.5m (4-8ft), and features huge, full blooms that are attractive to birds, bees, butterflies ?and little children! Buds, flowers and young leaves are edible and can be added to salads for interest and colour. The plant is very easygoing in the garden, requiring only full sun and well-drained soil. It is biennial, self-seeding to come back year after year. A soothing herb for irritations of the skin and mouth. Nice when paired with bergamots and coneflowers, its pastel blooms bring the colours of an Impressionist painting to the mixed border.
