Sugar maple’s mineral-rich sap remains one of the great wild tonics of the northern spring.
Growing from Seed
Paperbark Maple is one of those generous plants that come along well from seed. A period of cool, moist stratification helps prepare seed for sowing into a loose, well-drained, humus-rich mix. Level a tray of loose seed compost, sow evenly, cover to about the seed’s own depth, and keep it moist in full light. When the young plants are big enough to handle, space them into pots or a nursery row and let them size up before their final move.
