DESCRIZIONE: Genere di circa 150 specie di arbusti e rampicanti perenni, semi-sempreverdi o decidui. Si trovano in una grande varietà di habitat in Asia, Europa, Nordafrica e America del Nord. La Rosa Canina è la rosa spontanea più comune in Italia. È un arbusto spinoso, ha fusti legnosi glabri, con spine rosse robuste, arcuate, a base allungata, compresse. Le foglie sono composte da 5-7 foglioline ovali o ellittiche con margini dentati. I fiori rosati hanno grandi petali e sono poco profumati. Fiorisce nei mesi di maggio e giugno. I sui frutti sono bacche ovoidali, carnose colorate dal giallo al rosso intenso. Cresce in campagna e in collina. Si rinviene con facilità in siepi, radure, macchie, lungo i sentieri.
