Flowering plants grown for their blooms, from cottage-garden favourites to wildflowers you will not find in a garden centre. Our profiles look past the flower itself to the whole plant: its native habitat, its growth habit through the seasons, and the conditions its seed needs to germinate well. We include propagation notes for each species, since many ornamentals are fussy about sowing time, temperature and light. The species here are ones we have grown and observed ourselves, so the notes reflect what actually happens in a pot or a bed, not what a seed packet promises.
